THREDD Development Model

Six interconnected principles, Ascendency, Compositionality, Connectivity, Solidarity, Autonomy, and Predictability, form the THREDD Development Paradigm, driving purpose-built teams toward measurable productivity.

Software development organizations today are process oriented businesses. Highly complex, organically growing, decision engines. The goal of which is to produce value through creation of the best products and services that support the companies’ competitive initiatives. In the best cases they are well-oiled machines chasing the visions of their executive team and in the worst case individual gears all turning in different directions repeatedly solving the same problems and creating unnecessary friction through actions of egocentricity and concerns over job security. The latter typically resulting in even more stringent process and micromanagement in an attempt to appease the elephant in the room... Productivity.

The THREDD Development Paradigm is an application of THREDD AI principles in order to bring about a cohesive environment for accelerated productivity. It is the intersection of knowledge acquisition, cross-functional team dynamics, and product strategy. Its principles are the blueprint for implementing an optimal and lean development operation. THREDD Development is a dynamic, organic, growth-oriented approach to driving repeatable results through purpose-driven actions and is both a culture for high-velocity team building as well as a method of strategic execution of product initiatives.

The 6 principles are grounded by their organizational intersection or domain.

Knowledge Acquisition:

  • The Ascendency Principle - action: train
  • The Compositionality Principle - action: discover

Team Dynamics:

  • The Connectivity Principle - action: harmonize
  • The Solidarity Principle - action: empathize

Product Strategy:

  • The Autonomy Principle - action: respond
  • The Predictability Principle - action: delineate

What practices does your organization have in place today around knowledge acquisition, team dynamics and product strategy? Maybe product strategy is only for management, team dynamics are left up to individual teams, and knowledge acquisition is an afterthought since employees are paid to work and not to learn. Did I make you think? I hope so. Not such an easily answered question in many cases I'm sure.

It is important that all of these principles are adopted together because they support and enable one another.

  • Ascendency promotes Connectivity
  • Connectivity promotes Autonomy
  • Autonomy promotes Solidarity
  • Solidarity promotes Compositionality
  • Compositionality promotes Predictability
  • Predictability measures Productivity

And what is productivity? It is the result of efficient and intelligent decisioning.

While you reflect on this, stay tuned for a deeper dive into each principle and how they can be applied to achieve accelerated productivity.
